From August to September 1967 a study of 'Aboriginal Art Sites in the Northern Territory' was jointly funded by the Australian Institute of Aboriginal Studies (AIAS) and the South Australian Museum.
Robert Edwards, then Curator of Antropology at the South Australian Museum, headed the expedition which also included the production of a short film that includes footage of the making of latex molds from which these fibreglass casts were subsequently made.
Between 1968 and 1969, the Australian Institute of Aboriginal Studies organised a touring exhibition of photographs and six fibreglass casts of Cleland Hills rock engravings.
