Previously this language name was written 'Madhi Madhi' in this database. Brendan Kennedy (2014) compiled stories and songs in Mutti Mutti (D8), Wadi Wadi D4, Latji Latji S23 and Tati Tati S28. Muthi Muthi (D8) has close linguistic (including vocabulary and pronoun forms) and social relationships with Ledji-Ledji S23 and Wadi Wadi D4 (Wafer and Lissarrague 2008:63). Three distinct language groups: a) Yitha-Yitha D7 and Tharti-Tharti S28; b) Mathi-Mathi (D8), Wati-Wati D4, Letyi-Letyi S23; and c) Paakantji D12 share a matrilineal social system and Kilpara and Makwara moieties (Blake et al. 2011:25). Blake et al. (2011:2) report that a Mathi-Mathi speaker regarded Mathi-Mathi (D8), Wati-Wati D4, Letyi-Letyi S23, Weki-Weki S33 and Nyeri-Nyeri S24 as a closely related group. Blake and Reid (1998) place Mathi-Mathi (D8), Ledji-Ledji S23 and Wadi-Wadi D4 (which has two varieties: Swan Hill and Piangal) in a subgroup of the Western branch of Kulin. The Piangal variety of Wadi-Wadi D4 is less closely related to the others in that group and may be the language of the Weki-Weki people S33 (in Blake et al. 2011:2-3).

... spoken originally between the Murray and the Balranald district of NSW and as far north as the Lachlan (Hercus 1986:101). East of Lake Victoria, along Murray River west to Balranald, but excluding area between Wentworth and Euston which is occupried by Letji Letji. West of Lachlan River, northern boundary being between Pooncarie and Menindee (Horgen's map 2004). On Murrumbidgee River at Balranald; southwest to Murray River; west to near Lake Benanee; at Reedy Lake; north to west of Carrawathal (Tindale 1974).
