Cassady (1886:424 in Curr) described the territory: 'the Halifax Bay tribe occupies a tract of country fronting the shore of the bay for about fifty miles, and extending fifteen miles inland'. 'The northern limit appears to have been the Herbert River at Halifax and Ingham where Nyawaygi joined Biyaygiri; the southern limits are reported to have been near the modern township of Rollingstone. At its northern end, the western boundary ran between Toobanna, Frances Creek and Waterview Creek (which were in Nyawaygi territory) and the Stone River (which was Warungu country). To the south the Nyawaygi tract may have tapered off, effectively delimited by the Seaview Range (Mount spec was said to fall outside the Nyawaygi boundaries) (Dixon 1983:432). Southwest of Herbert River; principally on the high Sea View Range as far southeast as Harveyside and the Reid River; they were rain forest dwellers; they differed from the Warakamai who lived chiefly in coastal schlerophyll forest country; according to Dixon they went to the seashore near Ingham (Tindale 1974:182)
