[Standley Chasam was named after Ida Standley (1869-1948) the first teacher to work in Alice Springs who promoted education for both Indigenous and non Indigenous children. For 15 years Standley also oversaw the care and welfare of Indigenous children that had been seperated from their families. Delaying her retirement in order to move with the seperated children as to continue their care, Standley lived in a tent in Alice Springs during the summer of 1929. Ida Standley was awarded, for her service to the Alice Springs community, the MBE Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire]
