Wailpi is treated as an alternative name for Adnyamathanha L10 by some linguists while others say that it is a separate dialect. The map in Oates and Oates (1970) has both L17.1 Adnjamatana and L10 Wailbi but these were merged into L10 Adnjamatana in Oates (1975). As L10 has been used for Adnyamathanha for some time, a new code, L55, has been applied to Wailpi. Hercus (2007 p.c.) says Adnyamathanha people regard the Wailpi as the people from around Blinman. This is consistent with the location of Wailbi (L55) in Oates and Oates (1970). Hercus's informant said that Wailpi people talked 'heavy'. Previously in the Thesaurus, Wailpi was treated as an alternative of Adnyamathanha but it now has its own authorised heading. Documentation for Adnyamathanha may be relevant.
