Kuku Jawa (Y74) is one of the Kuku Mini Y94 varieties, including Ogo (Ogh) Alungul Y199, Ogo (Ogh) Anggula Y197, Ogh Ikaranggal Y198, Uw Olem Y208 / Agu Adhaw Y208 (or Y93?) and also affiliated with Ogh Undjan Y206, Ogh Awarangg Y201 and Goginy. Kuku Mini is also known as the 'Possum language' and some varieties are named as such by other language groups: Yawa (Y74)means 'possum' in Kuku Yalanji Y78; Alwon (Y74) in Kuku Thaypan Y84; and Anbu (Y74) in Olkola language Y73 (Rigsby, p.c. 2007). Rigsby says that Kuku Mini is a language name whose reference is shifting, variable and wide-ranging and that it signifies languages situated on the mainland south of Flinders Island all the way south to Normanton. While its literal meaning is 'good language', in some contexts the inference is closer to 'intelligible, spoken by friends' (2005:138, 142).
